After being in limbo over a rights issue, Jigarthanda will finally be made with Sajid Nadiadwala as the producer of the Hindi version.

The film was first supposed to be remade by producer Ajay Devgn, with Sanjay Dutt and Farhan Akhtar in lead roles.

Tamannaah Bhatia was supposed to play the heroine of the film. However, the film went into cold storage after we were informed that Kartik Aaryan has replaced Farhan in the film, after the latter dropped out.

Recently, news also broke that Sajid had signed on Sonchiriya director Abhishek Chaubey to direct an out and out commercial masala potboiler. We now have confirmation that the film is a remake of the Tamil and Telugu actor Siddharth Narayan starrer Jigarthanda.

For a while, there was not much clarity on the rights of Jigarthanda, but it seems that Sajid and his company have taken over the rights of the movie. “Sajid bhai loves Chaubey’s sensibilities, and he also loved Jigarthanda as a film. Casting is underway at the moment. They are looking at one of the big young stars to play the lead in the film. The said role is of a director who is researching a subject to make a gangster film, and he falls into trouble when he is caught snooping around,” says an industry source.
