Lilly Singh's listening problem
The YouTube sensation, earlier this week, had Malala Yousafzai on the show, and for once was listening to her guest.
Bollywood seems wary of desi-Canadian talk show host Lilly Singh. Her tepidly-received talk show A Little Late With Lilly Singh — which is the only woman-hosted primetime late-night chat show in the USA — has not featured any Bollywood guests so far.
Not even Priyanka Chopra, who is Lilly’s publicly proclaimed soul-sister and has featured on nearly every major talk-show in America, has so far stayed away from Lilly’s late-night show. According to sources in the know, it is Lilly’s propensity to interrupt that has put Bollywood on guard.
“She doesn’t let any of her guests speak. She interrupts incessantly and her questions can get very uncomfortable. Nowadays, all celebrities giving interviews in India or America reply to pre-meditated questions. Lilly Singh likes it improvised,” a television anchor informs.
It appears that things may change. The YouTube sensation, earlier this week, had Malala Yousafzai on the show, and for once was listening to her guest.
Malala was her usual quiet, controlled and dignified self, and had a lot to say in response to Lilly’s questions. She even answered some questions about how “normal” she is, mentioning how her mother still scolds her about her untidiness, and how her kid brother warns her not to expect special treatment.
Perhaps this will pave the path for better listening skills and more B-town representation on the show.
