Ajay Devgn to do another biopic
Amitabh Bachchan too plays a real-life football coach in his next film Jhund.
As Ajay Devgn wraps up his biopic on Maratha warrior Tanaji Malusare, he gets ready to do another biopic where he will be seen playing Syed Abdul Rahim, who is known as the founding father of football in India. And, the actor has been prepping for his role of the football coach even while completing the shooting of Taanaji: The Unsung Warrior.
“In the Rahim biopic, Ajay has to portray the character from 1952 to 1962. It’s a completely different era, mind space and body language. Ajay Devgn has been quietly researching on Syed Abdul Rahim and honing his skills in the game of football although he doesn’t have to play much football in the film. He is a coach, not a football player,” says a source.
It is to be noted that Indian football team won Gold at the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta and reached the semi-finals of the 1956 Melbourne Olympics when Syed was the coach
Interestingly, Amitabh Bachchan too plays a real-life football coach in his next film Jhund. So, are we looking at a prolonged phase of a national sport other than cricket getting its due in Indian cinema?
