Mumbai: After disappointing ‘Tubelight’ earlier this year, Salman Khan has returned with his second movie of the year, ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ to put a smile on exhibitors’ faces. The spy action thriller rolled out to an excellent debut in theaters across India and around the world.

Salman Khan-Katrina Kaif starrer actioner touched the figure of ₹33.75 crore in domestic collections on its opening day. International figures are still rolling in, but the UAE is reporting a terrific $950,000 (₹6.08 crore) start, and Rentrak has Australia at A$ 203,882 (₹1.01 crore), good for 7th place in Aussie theaters, and New Zealand at NZ$ 85,797 (₹38.54 lakhs), a stellar 4th place finish.

The film has opened to positive reviews from the critics and the audience alike and is expected to witness a boost over the weekend, as there is no real threat from the recent release 'Fukrey Returns'.

Exhibitors had revealed that audiences were queued to ticket counters to book their tickets for Tiger Zinda Hai and the film surpassed the pre-release sales of any other film this year.

Bankrolled by Yash Raj Films, 'Tiger Zinda Hai' stars Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, and Sajjad Delfrooz in main roles, and Paresh Rawal, Angad Bedi, Kumud Mishra, and Nawab Shah in supporting roles. It is the second in the franchise after 2012 'Ek Tha Tiger' and the second installment of Tiger film series.

It is no secret that 2017 has been a dull year for Bollywood as many big releases failed to set the cash registers ringing, and if Tiger Zinda Hai's opening day performance is anything to go by, the film has given a much needed confidence boost to the industry.
