Aamir's 2,000 crore dream
Dangal still needs around Rs 46 crore to touch the Rs 2,000 crore mark.
As Aamir tries to breach the Rs 2,000 crore mark with Dangal, he grapples to find new territories to release the movie.
Even as the team of Thugs of Hindostan starring Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan and Fatima Sana Shaikh is shooting away in faraway Malta, team Aamir Khan is now figuring out ways to touch the Rs 2,000 crore mark for the film Dangal regarding global collections.
The film has managed to collect Rs 1954.11 crore worldwide till date, with a significant boost of Rs 1,202 crore coming in from the Chinese box office. Taiwan chipped in with Rs 36.11 crore, while India and the rest of the world stand at Rs 716 crore.
Dangal still needs around Rs 46 crore to touch the Rs 2,000 crore mark. Aamir and his team are now looking at options to reach unchartered territories where they can release the film well and bridge the gap.
The movie collection is now tapering in China, which means that the film needs new distribution areas where Indian cinema has never gone before. Apparently, the likes of Karan Johar and team Baahubali are also considering China and adjacent markets post Dangal. Baahubali is already at Rs 1,700 crore from India and other international markets barring China and Taiwan. They expect a release somewhere in August.
Aamir will need to put in twice the effort to touch the magic figure of Rs 2,000 crore and keep a sizable lead to remain numero uno. Aamir was the first actor whose films breached the Rs 100, 200 and 300 crore marks, but lost out to Baahubali 2 in the Rs 400 crore and the Rs 500 crore box office race. Baahubali 2 stands at a staggering Rs 508 crores in Bollywood while Dangal closed at Rs 387 crore.
