India’s historic Olympics victory in 1948, when the hockey team brought home the gold medal, was played at the Wembley Stadium in London. However, filmmaker Reema Kagti all set to direct a film on that epic win will shoot the Olympian winning game in Bradford. Her reason to choose in the verdant vastness of this Yorkshire County is the local Asian population who she plans to have as spectators.

The much-loved television actress Mouni Roy will play Akshay Kumar’s leading lady. Reema says she wanted to make a sports film for the longest time. “My friend, the lyricist-writer Ankur Tiwari, shared the idea of a movie on the epic  Olympian hockey match and I finally got down to doing my own sports film.”

Reema is prompt to mention that the film scripted by Rajesh Devraj, is not an actual account of the game. “It’s a fictional take on what happened. The game of hockey would feature prominently in the plot. But there will also be an intense drama at the forefront. And it is not just the golden victory in 1948 we will be looking at, but it will encompass 12 crucial years in India’s history,” she signs off.
