Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has stepped out of her comfort zone in Atul Manjrekar’s upcoming musical-drama Fanney Khan, and all those who’ve watched the trailer seem to be loving her new avatar.

The debutante director reveals that the script was written with her in mind, and he had no other options for the role. “Everyone was sure that Aishwarya would do justice to the role. She is one of the most beautiful women, a true performer, a diva, and an iconic figure that girls look up to,” Atul says.

Talking about how he managed to get the choosy actress on board, he adds, “It was not difficult at all. She heard the script and she understood the thought behind the film and her character. Somewhere, it resonated with her. She thought that through her character she would be able to reach out to teenagers. I believe that’s why she agreed to do the film.”

Fanney Khan is a Hindi adaptation of the Oscar-nominated Dutch film Everybody’s Famous!, a film about a teenage girl whose singing career takes off once her unemployed father kidnaps the country’s top singer. The film opens in cinemas on 3 August.
