Sunny Kaushal may be a new entrant to the big screen, but he has been working in the industry behind the scenes for a long time. Having worked as an assistant director on My Friend Pinto in 2011 and Gunday in 2014, the actor first struck gold as an actor with Gold in 2018.

The actor, who is the brother of Uri actor Vicky Kaushal and son of action director Sham Kaushal, has three films coming up in 2020: Bhangra Paa Le, Hurdang, and Shiddat. He says that hard work has been the backbone of his family, which is why all the three men have seen success.

“In our family, we believe in hard work and our talent. My dad started with what he got. Vicky took up Masaan as an actor, and I also started with what I got. So talent and hard work definitely help,” he shares.

As for the three upcoming films, Sunny could not be more excited. He even promoted Bhangra Paa Le in front of Galaxy Apartments, home to Salman Khan, and Mannat, Shah Rukh Khan’s home in Bandra. “Actually, the film’s title is a rendition of Karan Arjun’s Bhangra Pa Le. We went to their houses and did the flash mob dance. They didn’t know about it at all. But we did it as part of a marketing and promotional campaign. It was great fun,” he smiles.

As for Hurdang, the 30-year-old reveals, “It’s a love story based on college politics. It is set in the backdrop of 1990 Allahabad. The film is directed  by Nikhil Nagesh Bhatt for Netflix.”

Meanwhile, Shiddat is also a love story. “The film is about the journey of a boy who is out to achieve his goal. It’s based on hockey, but sports is a small part of the film. It’s a romantic Bollywood drama kind of a film helmed by Kunal Deshmukh,” says Sunny, who is pleased with the kind of work he is being offered. “I am somewhere in between; I am choosing and pitching myself. I also call up directors and producers for work. I won’t get work sitting at home,” he concludes.
