Superstar Aamir Khan, who is close friends with director Rajkumar Hirani, has revealed that he was offered to play Sunil Dutt in the Sanju biopic.

The actor was stumped reading the script and was keen to play Sanjay Dutt. But he couldn’t as Ranbir Kapoor had already been finalised for it.

“Raju approached me with the script and I absolutely loved it. He has written it beautifully. He wanted me to play Sunil Dutt saab’s role and it is a fantastic role. This movie largely is a father-son story. Sanju’s role is unbelievable too,” Aamir said.

Aamir, who has done 3 Idiots and PK with Hirani, politely turned down the offer.

“I told Raju that Sanjay Dutt’s role had won my heart. I couldn’t think of doing any other role but that of Sanjay Dutt. I told Raju not to offer me any other role as I wouldn’t be able to do justice to it,” said the Dangal actor.

He further added, “I can’t come to the sets thinking these should have been my lines. I am sure Ranbir has played Sanjay Dutt really well as he is a fantastic actor.”

The film, written and directed by Hirani, will open up facets of Sanjay Dutt’s personal as well as public life on the big screen.
