Ajay Devgn: The biopic specialist
The actor currently has three biographical films in the pipeline Taanaji, Chanakya, and the untitled sports biopic based on Syed Abdul Rahim.
Ajay Devgn, whose filmography is peppered with a healthy dose of biopics — from The Legend Of Bhagat Singh to the more recent Raid, seems to be on a mission to establish himself as a biopic-specialist with three biographical films in the pipeline.
The actor will soon share screen space with his wife Kajol in Taanaji: The Unsung Hero, a film based on the Maratha military leader Tanaji Malusare. He will also be seen playing Chanakya in Neeraj Pandey’s biopic of the ancient Indian philosopher and economist, and Indian football coach Syed Abdul Rahim in Amit Sharma’s sports biopic.
According to a trade source, he’s just making the most of Bollywood’s flavour of the moment. “Biopics are the latest trend, and a lot of actors, including Akshay Kumar, Sushant Singh Rajput, Sonam Kapoor, and Aamir Khan, are doing multiple biopics these days. A lot of filmmakers feel that Ajay can play some very intense characters, and all the three biopics that he is scheduled to do have him playing intense roles that suit his on-screen persona,” the source says.
Meanwhile, Taanaji will also mark Ajay and Kajol’s onscreen reunion after a gap of ten years. The actors, who have done films like Raju Chacha, Hulchul and Gundaraj in the past, were last seen together in the 2008 film U Me Aur Hum.
