Rishi is the most unfiltered person I have met: Leena Yadav

Director Leena Yadav has decided to release her film Rajma Chawal, featuring Rishi Kapoor, on the Netflix platform.

Leena says, “It was not what I had in mind at all. We were just making a film and we thought let’s release it traditionally. After we shot for the film, Netflix wanted to take a look and so they got in touch with me. They saw it, loved it and proposed that we release it as a Netflix original. So that was an important decision to be taken.”

Leena Yadav’s film is set in the chaotic, vibrant Chandni Chowk area in Delhi, and captures the attempts of a father trying to reconnect with his estranged son through social media that turns out to be a whole new world for him.

The director, who seems to be extremely happy with Rishi’s professionalism, can’t stop gushing about him. She says, “When I first met him, he gave me a lot of reasons why I should not work with him. Then he heard the narration and he connected with the character. I think all fathers and sons have some kind of a communication problem at some point in life for sure. He connected with the material and he was the one who suggested Rajma Chawal as a title for the film.”

“I had a blast working with him. He is one of the most unfiltered people I have met. Especially in this industry, where it’s so difficult to say what you feel. He says what he feels and I find such people so refreshing,” says the Shabd director.

Rishi Kapoor is currently in New York undergoing medical treatment. When asked about his health, she says, “I have been updating him about the project. He is undergoing some kind of treatment, so I keep inquiring about his health and praying and wishing that he is back in action very soon.”
