Mumbai: The Thane police recorded the statement of Bollywood actress Udita Goswami on Wednesday in connection with its probe into the Call Detail Record (CDR) scam, which pertains to illegal acquisition of CDRs through private detectives.

The actress allegedly told the police that she had approached lawyer Rizwan Siddique, who had procured the CDR of her husband Mohit Suri in 2013. Goswami’s statement given to the police on Wednesday will be used as a witness testimony in the case, the police said.

“We summoned her for questioning after the detail of her procuring CDR fraudulently came to be known. She has recorded her detailed statement on Wednesday,” said a Thane crime branch officer.

The actor and Suri, who were then in love, had a squabble, after which Goswami approached the lawyer, officials said. She allegedly sought details of Suri's calls made to other women. The crime branch officials said that the actor will be a witness in the case.

“During the course of investigation, her name was revealed and that is when we summoned her and recorded her statement. If needed, she will be summoned again,” said Abhishek Trimukhe, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Thane Crime Branch.

The officials have scanned the hard disk of the lawyer’s laptop and the documents that were seized during his arrest. The investigators added that no other new celebrity’s name came up as of now. Siddique was unavailable for comment and he could not be reached on his number.

Earlier, the statement of Ayesha Shroff, the wife of actor Jackie Shroff, was recorded in the case. The police’s probe allegedly revealed that Shroff had also hinted that she had procured the CDR of actor Sahil Khan.

The crime branch Unit I officers interrogating the case had also found a message sent to the lawyer by actor Kangana Ranaut along with the name of actor Hritik Roshan and a number with it. While it was suspected the details were sent to Siddique to get Roshan’s CDR, the police probe revealed that it was not procured. Hence, it did not culminate into a criminal case, police said.
