Madhur Bhandarkar empathises with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. After all, his last film Indu Sarkar, faced problems when the Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) ordered 12 cuts and 2 disclaimers for his film. He, however, had no choice but to comply with them. “The CBFC members had asked me to chop off some scenes, which I did immediately, as the release date of my film was very close,” he recalls.

But he maintains that the CBFC needs do its job. He says, “Every filmmaker needs to show the film to the CBFC before its release. If the CBFC has awarded a certificate, protests need to stop. I also think that settling the matter with the Karni Sena would have been a better step.”

Even as Padmavati has been receiving support from all quarters, he rues how he had to fight for his film Indu Sarkar all alone. He says, “People shouldn’t create any problems unless they have seen the film. Along with Bollywood, I too am standing in support of Padmavati. Undeniably, when I was facing some problems from such outside parties nobody supported me,  the entire film industry remained quiet,” he sighs.
