It appears Kamal Haasan could not resist his cinema roots even while entering politics. His much vaunted political tour — to start from Dr Abdul Kalam’s house and memorial in Rameswaram — to connect with the masses will have the filmy title of Naalai Namadhe (Tomorrow is ours). That was a line made famous by the late MGR, with his movie by that name having been one of his most popular ones as a matinee idol.

“Without any hesitation, I called it Naalai Namadhe.  Alright, it is the title of late legendary star and politician MGR’s film. So what? He also had the same dream and when I named my journey after his title, they are good memories only. I want to make Tamil Nadu a better place for living.”

Since so much of politics in Tamil Nadu has had to do with cinema stars, it was only natural that Kamal felt like commenting on the other star from the film world who has also stated his intention to start a political party soon. Talking about Superstar Rajinikanth’s entry into politics and his promise of ‘spiritual politics’, Kamal said he was unsure whether that would work or not.

Always concerned about public issues, on many of which he has voiced sharp opinions most recently, Kamal had a few things to say about the ever-rising cost of petrol and diesel as well as the steep bus fare hike in Tamil Nadu.

“Solutions to certain problems should be arrived at, rather than merely talking about it. If you ask me when I will come to power and when I will resolve these issues, I can only cite the neighbouring state as an example where they faced a similar situation and how they handled the issue tactfully.”
