Arjun Rampal defends don Gawli
Around 49 cases, including Jamsandekar's murder, are still registered against Gawli in Mumbai
As Arjun Rampal awaits the release of his film Daddy, based on underworld don Arun Gawli, it does seem that he has taken it upon himself to be Gawli’s spokesperson as well to clarify everything on the latter’s behalf. “I have researched a lot for this film. Gawli can be anything but not a gunda (goon),” says Arjun. “He has done a lot of good to the people of Dagdi Chawl; he has helped them a lot. And that is the reason why they have a lot of respect for him. In fact, he is more like a Robin Hood for them. If he was a gunda, would he have fought the elections in a democratic manner and entered the Assembly?” questions Arjun.
While Daddy has been directed by Ashim Ahluwalia and will release soon at the box office, let us remind Arjun that Gawli was sentenced to life imprisonment five years ago for killing a Shiv Sena corporator named Kamlakar Jamsandekar, after taking a supari for '30 lakh.
