Shilpa Shetty, four others booked for cheating

The officials will now summon the persons concerned for recording their statements in the case and further action will be taken accordingly.

Mumbai: Thane’s Kongaon police station has registered a case of cheating against five persons, including Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband businessman Raj Kundra for allegedly cheating a bed-sheet supplier, Bhalotiya Exports Ltd, to the tune of Rs 24.12 lakh. The complainant had allegedly supplied the bed-sheets after receiving online orders for the accused persons’ firm but never received the payments for the deliveries.

The police said that the complainant in the case, the firm’s owner, Ravi Bhalotiya, has claimed that Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, founded by Kundra and Shetty, took commission for the deliveries of bedsheets that were made based on the receipt of the orders. The non-payment of dues are for the period August to November 2015 and May to August 2016, officials said. Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd directors Uday Kothari, Darshit Shah and Vedant Bali were the other people who were booked, officials said.

Based on the complaint from Mr Bhalotiya, a case was registered by the Kongaon police late on Wednesday night, officials said. Bhalotiya Exports is located in MIDC area in Bhiwandi, officials said.

Sukhada Narkar, Thane City police PRO, said, “We received the complaint following which a case was registered by the Kongaon police station. The investigation has begun. Details of the transactions are being looked into.”

A preliminary probe revealed that the Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd received online orders that were passed on to Bhalotiya Exports Ltd for making the logistical deliveries. The money collected on deliveries was paid to the Best Deal Ltd. It was then that they had to cut their commission and make payments to the Bhalotiya Exports Ltd, which are stated to be due. The officials will now summon the persons concerned for recording their statements in the case and further action will be taken accordingly.

A case has been registered against the accused under sections 420 (cheating), 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property) and 34 (acts of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
