The many battles of Sargarhi
The Battle of Sargarhi took place in 1879, and was fought between soldiers of the British Indian Army and 10,000 Afghan tribesmen.
It’s a battle within a battle. The Akshay Kumar starrer Battle of Sargarhi, which is being produced by Salman Khan and Karan Johar, will clash with the likes of Ajay Devgn, Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda.
Raj Kumar Santoshi has kickstarted a movie on the same lines in association with Wave Cinemas, and Randeep, who stars in it, has also grown his beard and shot for a portion of the movie. Ajay’s movie Son of Sardar 2 is also said to be on similar lines. Ditto with producers Vibha and Sunil Khosla, who want to start their movie with either Sunny Deol, or Sanjay Dutt, after signing a big director to helm the project.

Indeed, this situation could end up like the Bhagat Singh series of movies in 2000, which also had names like Ajay, Sunny and Raj Kumar throwing their hat in the ring to make movies on the same topic. The only difference is that bigger names like Akshay, Karan and Salman will be part of this now.
As for the Akshay starrer, Anurag Singh, who had earlier made the forgettable Hindi movie Raqeeb, is directing the film. He, however, has many Punjabi hits to his names, including the Diljit Dosanjh starrer Jatt and Juliet series.
Karan and Salman are keen to take this new big budget movie across language boundaries. While the film will be made in Hindi, dubbed versions in Tamil and Telugu will be released too. Karan, who was also the producer and distributor for Baahubali, has understood the potential of dubbing his big release for other markets, and wants the movie to be positioned like a Desi version of 300.
