Confusion surrounds Laxmmi Bomb
Speculation is rife about the Akshay Kumar starrer skipping a theatre release due to the uncertainty about them reopening
Ever since a trade analyst came online a few days ago to put out a blind item about a big film making its debut on a digital platform, rumours are flying hard and fast about all big films which could have an Over The Top (OTT) release instead of premiering in the theatres, owing to the uncertainty about when the theatres will actually open.
It was being said that Raghava Lawrence’s Laxmmi Bomb starring Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani the remake of Muni 2: Kanchana would have an OTT release. While everyone around the film has not commented on it, speculation has increased manifold.
The latest rumour says that the film has been sold for double the price than it was made, according to a trade analyst. We tried to speak to Fox Star Studios, who are backing the film produced by Shabina Khan and Tusshar Kapoor, but there was no reply by the time this article went to press.
“Other rumours doing the rounds in the film industry about the biggies also include ’83 and Sooryavanshi debuting on OTT, which the head of Reliance Entertainment Shibhashish Sarkar has denied outright. There was one more rumour about the Karan Johar produced and Sidharth Malhotra starring Shershaah going on OTT, which has also been denied,” say our sources.
“It is very difficult to recover that kind of investment from just the OTT platform, the economics don’t really work that way.
One can exhaust their entire year’s fund after buying three to five films,” says a source from an OTT platform.
However, we might soon hear of stories about smaller-to-medium budget films getting on to the OTT bandwagon for the release.
