Shraddha Kapoor's Pakistan connection
The actress who is still working the dates out was chosen because of her close resemblance to Uzma.
Shraddha Kapoor could be all set to play another character in a Pakistan-related film after Street Dancer 3D. It is now known that Shraddha will be playing a Pakistani dancer in the dance film, where she will represent Pakistan in an international dance competition in the UK, while Varun Dhawan plays an Indian dancer.
Now, Shraddha could play the lead in a Saif Ali Khan starrer film that is based on Uzma Ahmed, a Delhi woman who met a Pakistani taxi driver in Malaysia, went to Pakistan, and was forced to marry him at gunpoint.
“She is in talks to play the lead. They are working the dates and the modalities out. Shivam Nair will be directing the film while Saif plays the role of diplomat and Indian deputy High Commissioner to Pakistan, JP Singh. Saif and Shraddha do not have any romantic angle in the film. It is just a gritty story set in contemporary times. What got the makers hooked on to Shraddha was her close resemblance to Uzma,” says a trade source. Bhumi Pednekar was another name considered for the role.
The Indian External Affairs Minister then, Sushma Swaraj, played an important role in getting Uzma back to India.
