Bhumi Pednekar speaks her mind
Zoya is not only liberated but also so talented and overall amazing
Bhumi Pednekar is one actress who chose the unconventional route. She had put on oodles of weight for her debut film, Dum Laga Ke Haisha. People loved her, and the film went on to do wonders at the box office.
“The first film that came to be was unusual, and I love challenges in life. I come from a family where open discussions about varied topics were the norm. My mom always encouraged me to follow my heart and do what I think is right. And I am glad that I am getting to do such profound roles so early in my career. It was difficult gaining weight for Dum Laga Ke Haisha and was more of a herculean task to lose it for Toilet — Ek Prem Katha. And do watch out for my next, Shubh Mangal Savdhan,” Bhumi beams.
“I have strong opinions that stem from my socio-political debates and thoughts with my family. I take deep pride in being an Indian, but I don’t wear patriotism on my sleeve. I believe our generation is clued in to what’s happening around us and will bring about change for the better,” says the fiery actress.
Adding further, Bhumi clarifies, “Social media is a huge game changer and can be used for the greater good. Look at the driver who saved the lives of the yatris at Amarnath. We all stand by him and hope he gets his dues for his brave act.”
“As an actress, I try to choose films that will be entertaining and have a social message as well. So, when I heard the narration of Toilet — Ek Prem Katha, I realised that inadequate toilets are not just a rural problem but also an urban one. I instantly agreed to do the film. This is my contribution to raise awareness about the problems that plague our nation,” she specifies.
Her next film is the Zoya Akhtar directed Shubh Mangal Savdhan. Bhumi can’t stop gushing about her director.
“Shooting with Zoya was absolute fun and a wholesome learning experience. She is not only liberated but also so talented and overall amazing. Refreshing in her ideas and solid as a woman, Zoya is a powerhouse of talent. You have to see me in the movie to know what I am talking about,” she concludes.
