With a carefree spirit
Aditya Chopra's new favourite girl Vaani Kapoor is waiting with bated breath for her new release Befikre.
Vaani Kapoor is just one film old with Shudh Desi Romance and now we’ll see her in yet another YRF production — Befikre, to be released on December 9. This project is very important for her as the film is being directed by Aditya Chopra.
“It was fun as well as a great learning experience working with Adi. I had met him a couple of times during my first film — he is a really cool, calm, chilled out person and a focused director. In fact, I was more scared of Manish Sharma. The way Adi takes care of little nuances of filmmaking makes you realise his deep passion for the industry. This film is special to him and being a part of his dream project is indeed a big deal for me,” says Vaani.
In real life, the actress is not ‘befikre’ at all. She gets worried about the smallest of things. “I have cats, dogs, monkeys and ducks at home — it’s like a mini zoo. I take care of them and get stressed often. I do not take anything for granted — I like to shoulder every responsibility. My loyal friends and family are always there for me and I share a very good equation with them,” says Vaani.
When the Delhi girl decided to become an actress, she had no connections in Bollywood. “After giving auditions and being selected, I thought this is the place for me. I never get awestruck by anyone’s persona nor do I get intimidated on the sets — not even Adi’s, nor does he try to intimidate newcomers. He’d say ‘portray your real self and do not get bugged by society’s judgment. You need to believe in yourself and go ahead in life. After a few years, everything settles down.’ This instilled a lot of confidence in me,” says Vaani.
So is she confident of staying here in Bollywood and how has she adapted herself to the industry? “Time will tell if I am here to stay. I will not leave any stone unturned as far as hard work is concerned. After doing Befikre, I have become more confident. Right now, we are all waiting to see the audience’s reaction. It is a fun-filled, romantic film that promotes the carefree spirit of an individual. After doing this film, I have also turned a little befikre,” she laughs.
Rapid Fire Round
One YRF film you feel you missed being a part of?
I really wanted to do Band Baja Baraat. No regrets though, I did its remake in Tamil and felt a little content.
Are you open to juggling Tollywood with Bollywood?
Depends on if I get films down South. Presently B-town is keeping me busy.
Are you open to work outside YRF?
I have not been restricted by Aditya or the YRF production house. Hope people watch my film Befikre and offer me some good work.
Any particular director you would like to work with?
I do not wish to get jinxed by giving names. Though, I would love to work with Imtiaz Ali. His world of cinema attracts me a lot. I had liked his film Tamaasha as well.
Are you inclined to doing Hollywood films?
[Laughs] I have watched both Bollywood and Hollywood films right from childhood. Let me make a strong foothold here first but if Steven Spielberg offers me to work for him, I will have no reason to say no.
Which role from a yesteryear film would you like to perform?
I would love to do Sridevi’s role in Lamhe
Three things you would like to change about yourself?
Stop bothering. I always take the world’s problems on me. I don’t want to change in accordance to the society. I have an awkward sense of humour. I would like to change my dumb jokes.
