Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a notice to actor Arjun Kapoor for illegally constructing a gymnasium on the terrace of his seventh floor residence at Raheja Orchid, Juhu. The BMC has decided to will demolish the illegal extension. Mr Kapoor is the third celebrity to have received a notice from BMC over illegal constructions in the past year. Earlier, the civic body issued notices to actor Irrfan Khan and comedian Kapil Sharma for constructing illegal extensions in their their respective homes in Juhu and Versova respectively. The notice issued to Mr Kapoor earlier this week asks him to allow BMC officials to enter his premises and demolish the structure.

Parag Masurkar, assistant municipal commissioner of the K West ward, under whose jurisdiction Mr Kapoor’s house falls, said, “We have issued the final notice to Kapoor and we will demolish the illegal extensions on his terrace by this weekend.” According to BMC, Mr Kapoor has constructed a 30 by 16 square feet concrete room and a metal sheet roof housing a gym, on the terrace of Raheja Orchid apartments in Juhu, where he has a house on the seventh floor, without the requisite permissions.

The BMC first issued a show-cause notice to Mr Kapoor earlier in March, asking him to demolish the room, but the actor had not responded to the notice. The first notice only asked for Mr Kapoor to pull down the alterations. However, since the actor took no action, the BMC recently issued another notice stating that it will demolish the terrace structure itself.

The BMC will now demolish the structure and reimburse the cost of the demolition from the actor. Mr Masurkar said, “We will co-ordinate with the police and send ward officials to carry out the demolition.” BMC officials inspected the premises of Mr Kapoor’s building following complaints from a local activist. On noticing the unauthorised extensions, it issued a notice to Mr Kapoor. Despite attempts to contact Mr Kapoor, he remained unavailable for comment.
