My artist of my life is Beyonce, says Adele at the Grammys
Adele was stunned to receive the Album of the Year award for 25, expecting Beyonce to take it home for her visual LP Lemonade.
Los Angeles: The will forever be remembered as the night when British singer Adele split her trophy for Album of the Year into two to share it with Beyonce. It will also be remembered as the night when Adele took home the top five awards she was nominated for, becoming the first artist in Grammy history to sweep the top three categories twice. She now has a total of 15 Grammys.
Adele won best record, song of the year and best pop solo performance for her single Hello, and best album and best pop vocal album for 25.
Adele, however, was so stunned to receive Album of the Year for 25, expecting Beyonce to take it home for her visual LP Lemonade, that she broke heraward in half to share with Beyonce. And then the Hello singer — who was, along with the late David Bowie, the biggest winner at the music awards held at the Staples Center, Los Angeles — used her speech to honour Beyonce.
There was not a dry eye in the house when the 28-year-old singer said, “…I can’t really accept this award. And I’m very humble and I’m very grateful and gracious, but my artist of my life is Beyonce. This album you made, the Lemonade album, is so monumental… The way you make me and my friends feel, the way you make my black friends feel is empowering. And they stand up for themselves. And I love you. I always have.”
Adele beat Beyonce in the top three categories with her comeback album 25, which has become the second-biggest selling of the millennium. Some sites reported that Adele broke the trophy accidentally, and then requested a replacement.
