Johnny Depp has released a statement apologising to Donald Trump for having made a joke about assassinating the president. He admitted that it was a “bad joke” and that he didn’t mean any harm.

While addressing the Glatsonbury Festival crowd, the actor had said, “When was the last time an actor assassinated a president?”

His apology read, “It did not come out as intended, and I intended no malice. I was only trying to amuse, not to harm anyone.”

The White House had condemned the actor and called on Hollywood to speak out against him. The statement given by Trump’s spokesperson read, “President Trump has condemned violence in all forms and it’s sad that others like Johnny Depp have not followed his lead. I hope that some of Mr Depp’s colleagues will speak out against this type of rhetoric.”
