Lady Gaga makes history
The Rain of Me singer not only won the highest award Artist of the Year but also became the first recipient of the award show's Tricon Award
Lady Gaga is on a roll. After winning an Academy Award this year, the hitmaker swept awards back-to-back at the MTV VMAs held on Sunday. The Rain of Me singer not only won the highest award Artist of the Year but also became the first recipient of the award show's Tricon Award.
The latter honoured her for being an icon in music, acting, fashion, and activism.
On receiving the Tricon Award by Bella Hadid, Gaga said, "I want to share this award with everybody at home tonight, everybody at home who is their own form of a Tricon."
Adding further, she continued, "I want you to know that you can do this too. Just because we're separated right now and culture may feel less alive in some ways, I know a renaissance is coming, and the wrath of pop culture will inspire you, and the rage of art will empower you as it responds to hardship with its generosity and love."
