New Delhi: They may be battling it out on the pop charts with 'Malibu' and 'Bon Appetit,' but Miley Cyrus has revealed that she and Katy Perry share a deep bond of friendship.

The 24-year-old songstress told WKTU's Cubby and Carolina Bermudez, "She's been a friend of mine for a really long time. We were actually just realizing the other day that next year, we'll have been friends for 10 years. I think that's my friend that I've known the longest. Which is really, really weird!"

According to the pop princess, "that's like a really long time" in L.A.

She recalled, "When she came out with 'I Kissed a Girl,' I was doing the 'Hannah Montana' movie, and I heard her on the radio. They said, 'Who did you write that about?' She said me!"

"I was on her dad's four-wheeler at the time. When Katy said that, I screamed and started freaking out, and then she asked me to go to the VMAs with her. That's when I started doing my whole VMA controversy. I was like, 'I'll go with Katy Perry!'," the 'Wrecking Ball' hit-maker continued.

Cyrus revealed that since her mom, Tish Cyrus, was a little leery about that, "She didn't want me to go by myself. You know-like stranger danger" and "So, my mom went with me in the limo with Katy Perry."

"So, that's how we met," the 'The Climb' singer said, "and we just stayed friends."

Even though they are great friends, there is another reason Cyrus looks up to her in the pop world.

She said, "..one because she's my friend and two because of her political work. She was like the first one to go campaign for Hillary [Clinton] and I followed that. She used her voice for pop culture and politics and I loved it."
