Greek musical ensemble Udopia gave a euphonious performance at capital’s India International Centre.

Drawing inspiration from ritual dance music, modern grooves, and the country’s ancient musical heritage, the group created an aesthetic blend of rhythmic elements that engaged the audience with the beauty of age old melodies. Thimios Atzakas, James Wylie, Kostas Anastasiadis, Fausto Sierakowski and Avgerini Gatsi - all five performers entertained the crowd with their unconventional genre of music where western chords mingled with Greece’s rich and diversified heritage influences

Exhilarated by the response from the audience H.E. Panos Kalogeropoulos, Ambassador of Greece, said, “The reaction to the music proves that there is appreciation and appetite for cultural exchanges between Greece and India that benefit the people of both countries. We are glad to have been a part of this as it gave the audience here the chance to acquaint itself with Greek music heritage with a modern twist, through Udopia’s innovative performance.”

Travelling all the way from Greece under the aegis of The Embassy of Greece in New Delhi, Mawana Sugars, India International Centre, and the Indo-Hellenic Friendship League, the group performed a gripping session dedicated to strengthening the cultural ties between the two countries.

The group’s unusual and characteristic line up of saxophones, oud, kamancheh, voice, accordion created melodies that were appreciated by all those in attendance.

The Greek Ensemble flaunted their improvisational prowess leaving the audience spellbound and wanting more of magic being churned out by the artists as they continued to create euphoria through the night.

Siddharth Shriram, chairman of Mawana Sugars said: “We see this collaboration as an effort to strengthen and deepen relations between two nations that believe in preserving their culturally rich heritage.

The concert is a platform to showcase Greece’s rich and diversified music heritage and explore the multitude of stylistic and interpretative influences that Greek music has received over past centuries.”
