Jez very UNIKNIQUE
Young, resilient and content with their music, DJs Knique and Jeza are ready to take on the music scene by storm.
Knique aka Nikshith Shetty and Jeza aka Jayaram Sharma are no strangers to the Bengaluru music scene. Having begun their career over seven years ago, Knique and Jeza, as they are popularly called, have made a name for themselves. They also have a hand in mentoring upcoming artists in the city.
Sometimes, syncing is everything. Having co-ordination and balance with your partner is a must when performing together. Nikshith adds, “The two of us came together when we decided to go to DJ classes together. We found our style of music on the same path. It’s very easy to work with him. As a DJ when you’re playing, the other person with you should be able to play something that compliments your pieces.” The direction or path that Jeza seems to take works perfectly with what Nikshith plays. “We are heavily influenced by the whole Detroit scene, although we don't really play that. We really like French music, but most of it comes from Detroit, Chicago and New York,” he adds. The duo is mostly known to play house music. Jayaram Sharma aka Jeza says that the only aim is to educate the younger generation about good music. Talking on what they are working on currently, he says, “Future projects are all in progress, but we never really satisfied with it. I think it is a very creative process with no particular deadline." Jayaram feels that upcoming artists must always listen and never doubt themselves. He further adds, “I was a resident DJ for while. At one point, when I played music no one really danced to it. I started doubting my ability as an artist. And, it took me a while to get out. So, one thing is never to doubt yourself.” On their take of the techno and electronic scene in Bengaluru, Nikshith states, “It has really been great for the entire scene with artists coming down every week and performing. We have a lot of people who are open to this kind of music and their reaction is great. It has rapidly improved just in the past year with new venues and artists coming to India.” Due to globalisation, everyone wants to have a go at playing in India and in any Asian country.
The duo will next be seen playing at Tao Terrace, 1 Mg Mall
