After a dark and stark winter, spring heralds a renewal of life with a heady burst of blooms — in shapes, hues and scents that fire an artist’s imagination. At the ongoing Amazon India Fashion Week, designers presented flower power with a quirky twist for their spring-summer collections.

Designer Pallavi Mohan shares that florals and easy silhouettes are going to rock the coming summer. Her collection titled ‘Sweet Nector’, which was inspired by bees and beehives, included a varied array of florals. The designer used a special technique called coiling to interpret flowers. “I love flowers and hence have used a lot of them. Through multiple layers, I tried to create the complexity and depth. Geometric motifs stand in contrast to the organic shapes and hues of flowers.”

Designer duo Ashima-Leena’s collection titled ‘Romance of the Florals’ showcased their love for floral prints. The collection was a combination of soft fabric and pastel shades of pale blue and pink, with white lotuses and leafy greens put together on yellow and orange fabrics with hints of sparkle. Models sported beach hats and oversized sunglasses while making their way down the runway in delicate feminine lacy creations. Silhouettes ranged from fuss-free separates to elegant saris.

Ilk by Shikha Grover and Vinita Adhikari gave a different twist to love with their collection ‘Love Me Not’, using layering and texturing. The duo presented two floral stories using pastels and stark monochromes. They created a haze with shadows crafted with prints. The creations were youthful and emphasis was given to detailing while adding elements of handmade textures.

Taking a cue from a surrealistic tropical garden, Sanchita’s collection titled ‘Tropical Garden’ presented boudoir-inspired fashion at its eccentric best. The line included pyjama sets, camisoles, bejewelled jackets, kaftans and robes dotted with small insects.

On the other hand, young designer duo Gauri and Nainika took a contemporary route with their inspiration. They showcased their full on flirty collection. According to them, florals have a language all their own, and add, “We tried to add elements of flowers through the layering technique and used them with the help of ruffles and frills. As a trend, we can say that from dark lilies to statement jasmines, there will be many small yet crucial fashion trends based solely on florals next year.”
