Manipur school prevail

Mohammed Siraj scored five goals, including a hat-trick, as Manipur’s North Eastern English School thrashed Wellham Boys School, Dehradun, 5-1 in the Under-17 competition of the Subroto Cup inter-school football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi on Sunday. It was Siraj’s second successive hat-trick after his three goals in the team’s win over Car Nicobar. Siraj is also the current top scorer in the U-17 category with eight goals from two matches to his credit. In another match, Air Force Bal Bharti School registered their first win in the tournament, outplaying GV Raja Sports School, Kerala 3-1. Uma Shankar (3rd, 16th) scored a brace for the winners while Mohammed Enas reduced the margin for Kerala. However, it proved to be a bad day in the office for Delhi Public School, who were thumped 0-3 by the Tripura Sports School. In the girls’ section, last year’s best player Offee played a central role to help Rev. Saiaithanga Memorial School, Aizawl, beat SAMGMR Sports School, Kerala, 2-0. Offee (11th min) scored the opening goal, while Lalpuatfili (54th min) doubled the lead in the second half. Offee is now the highest scorer among the girls with four goals from two matches.
