UPES keeps its employability commitment despite COVID-19 with 94% placements
UPES students have been placed across various Indian and global corporations, start-ups, and unicorns from different industries
After months of subdued operations because of COVID-19, India Inc. is trying to bounce back on its feet and is demanding professionals with cross-domain knowledge, negligible to no warm-up or training period and collaborative not competitive mind-set.
University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), a leading multi-disciplinary & specialization focused university, concluded its annual placements for the academic year 2019-20 and witnessed this trend in organizations across varied industries.
The university registered an overall placement of 94%. 2,297 under-graduate and post-graduate students from the School of Engineering, School of Computer Science, School of Business, School of Design and School of Law received 2,818 offers from 580+ companies.
UPES students have been placed across various Indian and global corporations, start-ups, and unicorns from different industries.
The list of top recruiters who hired from UPES includes Accenture, Adani Power, Aditya Birla, Amazon, American Express, Bosch, Byju’s, Capgemini Technology Services, Delhivery, Ziegler Aerospace, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor India, Royal Enfield, Indigo Airlines, HSBC, HDFC Ltd, Deloitte, KPMG, PwC, Wildcraft, PhonePe, Tata Projects Ltd, Nestle, ITC Ltd, Dell Technologies, Hitachi Consulting, IBM, Reliance Jio Infocomm, and more.
Elaborating on the highly successful placement process, Dr Sunil Rai, Vice-Chancellor, UPES, stated, “Employability of our students is one of the success metrics for the hard work put in by them, their professors-cum-mentors, academic and non-academic teams.
My heartiest congratulations to all the eligible students who have been placed after overcoming challenges thrown by this unprecedented year that has rattled nations and economies at the global scale.
I also see this as a year of great learnings. I am proud of the resilience and adaptability demonstrated by the students, some of the qualities that organizations seek in their employees, both young and old, besides the domain knowledge.”
KEY TO THE COVID-19 CONUNDRUM: MULTI-PRONGED PLACEMENT DRIVE
COVID-19 struck at a time when the placements drive at UPES was at its peak. However, a multi-pronged strategy based on the thorough assessment of the situation and analysis of the recruiters’ sentiments helped students in navigating the unforeseen circumstances. More than 2400 internships, mostly virtual, were arranged for the students to get real-time experience and put their knowledge and skills to use.
Specific training interventions targeting cross-functional expertise were planned to enhance their employability quotient. The university also provided them access to online learning platforms like Coursera and encouraged them to pursue certification courses to gain additional expertise in their core and allied fields.
BRIDGING THE DEMAND-SUPPLY GAP
With India Inc. under tremendous pressure, organizations are relying on campus placements to hire the right candidate for the right job, besides their other recruitment sources.
The EDGE (Enhanced Development for Growth and Enrichment) initiative by UPES supports students in their chosen fields with a focus on key action areas- entrepreneurship, exam pathways (such as Services Selection Board for Indian Armed Forces), and employability.
Through EDGE the career services wing of UPES customizes training and mentorship programs to address individual requirements of each student, depending on whether they want to run a start-up, sit for entrance exams, explore social work or start a corporate career.
