InspirationPreneur Renu Paswan's Uplifting Journey From Struggle to Glory
India's foremost InspirationPreneur and a shining light of the Dalit Paswan community
When you choose to write your own destiny, all it takes is a moment to decide and your life truly changes for the better. For India’s foremost InspirationPreneur and a shining light of the Dalit Paswan community, Renu Paswan, that moment came two decades back, while she was living with her family in a remote village in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. From there to 20 years later, Renu’s life has taken a 360 degree turn and now she want to give back to the society, especially to those whose voices are often not heard above the usual din.
In the process, Renu has joined hands with the United Nations’ bodies like UNGASS, CSW, and UN-WOMEN to carry out developmental work as per their Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The main goals on which Renu and her foundation focus are gender equality and women empowerment, especially in case of rural population. Telling us more about her mission in life, “I want to work, not just for my Paswan community but also for any section of the society, which is facing a difficult life. When I became aware of the UN SDGs, and got associated with UN bodies, it inspired me to replicate the goals at the ground level in rural India, beginning with my own village in Bihar. Since past few years, I have also been a regular at periodic meetings as well as online interactions with professionals, influencers and policymakers from different parts of the world, which has really widened my horizons.”
The projects that Renu takes up are aimed at making lives of rural women better by giving them a chance to start a livelihood, and then helping them commercialize that further. Renu travels to villages to create awareness about issues like gender sensitization and equal rights for women. She is a social influencer in her own way, who wants to make a real difference to the lives of people on the ground.
For Renu’s exemplary social development activities, she has received awards like “India’s First InspirationPreneur” in 2019 at the World Economic Forum, “Iconic Women of the Year,” “Women of Substance”, “India’s Achievers Award,” “She The Change”, and “Nari Shakti Ko Pranam”, etc.
The importance of understanding pain of others and helping them navigate through the labyrinths of life has turned Renu into a messiah for everyone in need of help. Now she wants to carry on her mission in company with several organizations like the UN, WSIS, Sewa Bharati and World Pulse to ensure that the SDGs serve their purpose in people’s lives.
