While Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a foreign tour, two persons reportedly tried to enter his residence using fabricated identity cards and were arrested, said a police source.

According to the source, the accused, identified as Shamul Mohammed and Jiyarul Momain, both of whom are labourers from West Bengal, came to the Prime Minister’s residence at 7, Race Course Road in New Delhi and at the checking gate produced their Election Commission cards in order to enter his house.

“They said that they wanted to meet the PM on the pretext of asking him for a job as they had recently lost their jobs in Delhi. When the security personnel asked them to leave as the PM was not present, both of them insisted on entering the premises to meet someone they claimed they know,” the source said.

When the police started inspecting their cards, it was found that their identity cards were morphed. “When we caught the duo for using fake identity cards, they broke down and confessed that they had morphed the Election Commission cards but had no mala fide intention to harm or cheat the Prime Minister. They said they just wanted to meet him to ask for jobs,” said the source. The two men were reportedly questioned by the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Research and Analysis Wing, CBI, police special cell and the deputy commissioner of New Delhi district, said the source.

When contacted, DCP (New Delhi) Jatin Narwal refused to comment on the incident. An FIR was registered against the accused at Chanakya Puri police station under IPC Sections 419, 420, 468 and 471.
