Belagavi: Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Monday shocked his own party members when he hinted that his becoming the CM, even if the party and he were to win elections, was not a done deal.

When asked whether he would become the chief minister if the Congress returned to power in Karnataka, a noncommittal Mr Siddaramaiah said, “I can’t say that only I can become CM if the Congress comes to power in the state. But as the elections are being held under my leadership, there is a possibility that I could become chief minister again.”

He did not elaborate. Despite the claims of the JD(S) to the contrary, Mr Siddaramaiah once again maintained that it had entered into a tacit agreement with the BJP for the coming polls and that he had proof that its state chief, H.D. Kumaraswamy, recently travelled on the same flight as BJP national party president, Amit Shah.
