New Delhi: A three-day “brainstorming” conference of India’s heads of missions abroad began in New Delhi on Saturday during which the envoys will discuss how best to promote India’s national interests abroad as well as the country’s foreign policy priorities. Trade issues and energy security are also expected to be discussed in the context of current global developments at the conference.
External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj inaugurated the ninth heads of mission conference on the theme “Unprecedented Outreach: Unparalleled Outcomes” on Saturday. MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted, “The time of the year when all our Ambassadors and High Commissioners come to Delhi for a brainstorming session on promoting India’s national interests abroad!”
The government is also likely to brief the envoys on economic reform initiatives and steps taken for ease-of-doing business so that they can highlight them in their respective countries of postings. Indian envoys in multilateral forums are also reportedly attending the conference.
