Army Chief leaves for maiden visit to US

There has been increased close militarily co-operation between India and US in recent years and the visit is expected to further boost these ties.

New Delhi: At a time of heightened India-Pakistan tension, Army Chief Gen. Bipin Rawat on Monday left for United States, where he will meet top military commanders.

There has been increased close militarily co-operation between India and US in recent years and the visit is expected to further boost these ties.

Gen. Rawat’s maiden visit starts from April 2 to April 5.  

During the visit, Gen. Rawat led delegation will interact with senior military hierarchy of the US Armed Forces with an aim to take forward the military to military co-operation.

He will interact with Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Gen. Mark A. Milley, Chief of Staff of the US Army, to discuss military cooperation issues of mutual interest.

The Army Chief is also expected to discuss the direct support that Pakistan offers to terror activities in India and its funding of terror groups like the Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Tayyaba.
