Students clash with forces in Pulwama

The students marched towards the government degree college in Pulwama where already a protest was underway.

Srinagar: Irate crowd of students on Monday again clashed with security forces in J&K’s southern Pulwama town. The police fired teargas and PAVA canisters to disperse the slogan-chanting students who waved Pakistan’s national flag and also portraits of slain Hizb-ul-Mujahedeen commander Burhan Wani during the protests. The slogans written on a black cloth banner they were carrying with them sought “death” for the blasphemy of Islam Prophet.

Reports from Pulwama said that the students of Mehjoor Memorial Higher Secondary School boycotted classes and took to the streets to demand release of fellow students arrested by the police during the recent student protests. The principle of the institutions tried hard to pacify them but in vain.

The students marched towards the government degree college in Pulwama where already a protest was underway. During the ensuing clashes, the police took several students in custody. The clashes led to the closure of shops and other business establishments in the area.
