Jet Airways exec is held for land grab
Accused grabbed 945 square metres of government land in Chikamberpur on Delhi-UP border.
Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad police arrested the vice-president (security) of Jet Airways in connection with a land grabbing case on Sunday.
The Ghaziabad municipal corporation filed a complaint against Colonel Avneet Singh Bedi on June 21 at the Sahibabad police station. It has been alleged the accused grabbed 945 square metres of government land in Chikamberpur village on the Delhi-UP border.
Acting on the complaint, police filed an FIR under Sections 447 (punishment for criminal trespass) and 448 (punishment for house-trespass) of the IPC.
“Avneet Singh Bedi was arrested at 12.35am from his Panchsheel Park residence in South Delhi,” said Aakash Tomar, superintendent of police (city), Ghaziabad.
According to the police, Singh told them that he was stationed in Mumbai and headed Jet Airways’ security functions.
The family members of the accused have dismissed the allegations as “absolutely false and baseless” and have said that the land was registered in the name of Singh’s mother. They also claimed that the charge against the accused was a conspiracy engineered by a former Jet Airways employee.
