Press not target: Maoists
Maoists on Friday came out with an elaborate clarification that the Doordarshan staffers were not their target.
Bhopal: Three days after they ambushed a media team escorted by a security party in Nilwaya jungle in Chhattisgarh’s south Bastar district of Dantewada killing a journalist and three police officers, Maoists on Friday came out with an elaborate clarification that the Doordarshan staffers were not their target.
Dantewada superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Pallav, however, responded to the purported clarification by rebels by saying, “In that case, why was the camera of the media team stolen by the ultras? The camera was taken away by them because it had recorded the ambush which would have exposed them”.
“Multiple bullet injuries and fractures in skull of the slain DD cameraman Achyutanand Sahu is a clear indication that the media team was the target of the Naxals”, he added.
