New Delhi: With just a little over two years of the NDA government left at the Centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is keen to fast track his ambitious housing scheme for the urban poor - Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana (Urban) — which envisages housing for all by 2022. He has directed the ministry for housing and urban poverty alleviation (HUPA) to accord top priority to its implementation. To this effect, the PMO has sought an action plan and time frame from all the states for implementing it.

A roadmap of the implementation of the scheme is to be submitted to the PMO, sources close to the development told this newspaper.

In a recent high-level meeting with top bureaucrats, Mr Modi while reviewing the progress of the scheme (which was launched in June 2015), is learnt to have directed them to monitor it on a weekly basis, sources informed. The urgency is also because several states have put forward requests for setting up of residential units for urban poor.
