'Corrupt gathering to corner govt'
The minister said the govt has taken tough stand against corruption & this is evident from the fact that four former chief ministers are behind bars.
Motihari (Bihar): Union minister Radha Mohan Singh on Sunday said “corrupt people” have gathered at one platform to corner the Nare-ndra Modi government.
Mr Singh’s comment came days after Opposition parties emerged victorious in 11 out of 14 Lok Sabha and Assembly bypolls with the BJP losing Kairana Lok Sabha seat in the politically important Uttar Pradesh to a united opposition.
“There is an uneasiness among corrupt people who have gathered at one platform to corner the Central government but the people know the reality,” he said referring to Opposition parties getting united to oppose the BJP.
Addressing a function organised by BJP’s intellectual cell here, the agriculture and farmers welfare minister said the government has taken tough stand against corruption and this is evident from the fact that four former chief ministers are behind bars.
However, he did not elaborate on this.
At a rally on the fourth anniversary of the BJP-led NDA government on May 26, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also mocked Opposition parties over their unity efforts saying his drive against corruption has brought them together.
Training his guns at the Congress without naming it, Mr Singh said though the party reaped political dividends in the name of Dr B.R. Ambedkar in elections but it actively worked to defeat the dalit icon.
It was the Jan Sangh’s founding president Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee who had helped Dr Ambedkar in reaching the Rajya Sabha, he claimed.
