Mahendragiri hill selected under Ramayana Circuit

Ramayan Circuit is one of the 15 thematic circuits identified for development under the Swa-desh Darshan scheme.

Bhubaneshwar: Mahendragiri hill in Odisha and 14 other tourist destinations of the country have been selected by the Union tourism ministry for development under the Ramayana Circuit.

Ramayan Circuit is one of the 15 thematic circuits identified for development under the Swa-desh Darshan scheme.

This information was given by the Union minister of state for culture Prahlad Singh Patel in reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

The projects for development under the scheme are identified in consultation with the state governments/UT administrations are sanctioned subject to availability of funds, submission of suitable detailed project reports, adherence to scheme guidelines and utilization of funds released earlier.

Located on the border of Andhra in Odisha district, Mahendragiri hill a part of Eastern Ghats.

It is associated with mythological stories from the Ramayana as Mahendra Parvata (mountain).

Mahendragiri is also considered as a ‘Kula Parvata’ along with Malaya, Sahyadri, Parijatra, Shuktiman, Vindhya and Malyavaan.
