Lucknow: UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath will now be the face of Hindutva for the BJP in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. In the past one and a half years as chief minister Yogi Adityanath has carefully cultivated his image as a hardcore Hindu leader.

From claiming in the state assembly that he did not celebrate Eid, to refusing to attend the Eid prayers at Eidgah and not hosting the customary Roza Iftar – Yogi Adityanath has repeatedly reiterated his saffron credentials.

In a recent election rally, he said, “Aapko Ali Mubarak, hamare liye to Bajrangbali hi kaafi hain”.

Besides, he has given an undeniable impetus to Hindu religious tourism— be it holding the Dev Deepawali in Ayodhya, renaming Faizabad as Ayodhya, and Allahabad as Prayagraj and ensuring development of all Hindu religious shrines.

He recently announced a 221-metre tall statue of Lord Ram that will be installed in Ayodhya and boundary walls for all Ram Lila grounds in the state.

Yogi Adityanath is holding the Kumbh Mela on a mega scale and coming on the eve of general elections, the event is bound to bring in a great deal of goodwill for the chief minister and the government.

“There has been a tremendous demand for Yogi Adityanath from the states that are having elections at present. We have already started receiving requests for his campaign tours for the general elections. This means that after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yogi ji is the next most sought after star campaigner in the party which speaks volumes for his popularity,” said a BJP leader.

According to sources, it is the RSS that is keen to cultivate Yogi Adityanath as ‘Brand Hindutva’.

A senior RSS functionary said, “Yogi Adityanath is a perfect ambassador for Hindutva. He has an impeccable image as an honest and able administrator and as head of the Goraksh Peeth, he is a devout Hindu,”

Yogi Adityanath heads the Nath sect which has a sizeable number of followers across the country and that is the the reason he is a sought after campaigner even in the Northeast states. The BJP, according to sources, is now keen to push the Hindutva factor further for the elections.
