Bhubaneswar: The Odisha police on Tuesday rescued an engineering student who is believed to have completed a quarter of Blue Whale suicide game and was about to end his life very shortly after playing a few more stages of the dreaded online stuff.

The boy, a native of Keonjhar district, is pursuing his degree course from a private engineering college in Cuttack, 25 km from here. “The boy has been rescued and handed over to his parents after counselling. He is in a depressed state,” Cuttack DCP Akhileswar Singh said.

The 18-year-old boy completed 10 levels of the Blue Whale online game, police sources said. The rescued student was staying in a rented house in CDA area under the Markat Nagar police limits. Sources informed that after the neighbours found him depressed, they informed the police through tweets, leading to his rescue.
