MHA bans militant outfit in Kashmir Valley

New Delhi: The home ministry has banned a terror outfit, Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen, which has been operating in the Kashmir Valley with the aim of “liberating Kashmir” and is also involved in a series of subversive activities.

In a notification issued on Wednesday, the ministry stated that the terror outfit has been getting financial as well as logistic support from their handlers based abroad. Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM) has been operating in the Valley since 1990.

The notification issued by the ministry said, “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (a) of sub-section (1) of Section 35 of the Unlawful Activit-ies (Prevention) Act, 1967, the Central government hereby makes the following further amendments in the First Schedule to the said Act, namely: In the First Schedule to the said Act, after serial number 40 and the entries relating thereto, the following serial number and entries shall be inserted, namely: ‘41. Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM) and all its manifestations’.”

The terror outfit has been involved in a series of terrorist attacks apart from other subversive activities like grenade attacks and weapons snatching. It has also been supporting other terrorist groups like the Hizbul-Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Tayabbba, providing them financial and logistical support in the recent past. “The terror group has also committed acts of terrorism and promoting acts of terrorism. It has been engaged in radicalisation and recruitment of youth for terrorist activities in India,’’ the notification added.

According to the home ministry order, a number of cases have been registered by the Jammu and Kashmir police over the past few months where it was revealed that the Tehreek has played a major role in commission of terrorist acts and a number of its cadre have been arrested.

Investigations of the cases also revealed that terror outfit was also running terrorist training camps for Kashmiri youth and is likely to recruit more youth from the Jammu and Kashmir.
