Indian Railways to go for biometric system for attendance
The move will ensure increase in productivity by up to 20 percent, a senior official in Railways said.
New Delhi: Nearly one lakh engine drivers and over 25,000 guards in Indian Railways will now have to register attendance on bio-metric machines like their other government counterparts.
The move will ensure increase in productivity by up to 20 percent, a senior official in Railways said.
Efficient management of crew is fundamental to effective train operations as it is a vital and costly input, the official said, adding the railways’ business plans for 2017-18 says that transporter will migrate towards bio-metric attendance of crew which will be far more accurate and greatly enhance crew availability.
Crew management on Indian railways has already been computerized through crew management systems rolled out over Indian Railways- with sign-on and sign-off being recorded on the system, the plan said. At present 15 per cent of the crew is covered under bio-metric sign and it is targeted to increase the coverage to over 50 per cent by 2017-18.
