Lucknow: The terror suspect in the shootout at Lucknow's Thakurganj area is allegedly involved in the Ujjain train explosion that happened on Tuesday, officials said.
"The terror suspect linked to the Ujjain Train Blast is holed up in a building on Lucknow outskirts in Uttar Pradesh. An anti-terrorism squad operation is on,” said ADG Daljit Chaudhary.
"The suspect has weapons, ammunition with him but he is alone there. No hostage and nobody else present there," said the Inspector General of the Anti-terrorism squad.
He further said that the police, in order to arrest the suspect alive, had used chilli bombs. While the forces have stopped firing, the suspect has been firing intermittently, he added.
Furthermore, Madhya Pradesh's IG Law and order Makrand Devaskar also confirmed that the Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train explosion was a terrorist attack adding that three have been detained in Pipariya.
"It was a low intensity IED blast. IED is always used in a terrorist attack. The three detained have confirmed their involvement," he said.
UP Deputy General of Police Javeed Ahmed also said that the forces were trying to convince the holed-up person to surrender.
The neighbourhood has been cordoned off and at least 20 commandos are involved in the operation, said an NDTV report citing police sources. Twenty rounds have been fired until and an ambulance has also been called to the spot.
