HC slams police over Lucknow varsity stir

Twenty-five expelled students of the university had assaulted the vice chancellor and other officials and teachers on the campus on Wednesday.

Lucknow: The Allahabad high court on Friday slammed the UP police for its laxity in responding to the complaint of the Lucknow University authorities when violence began on the campus on Wednesday.

The Lucknow bench of the high court, taking suo moto cognizance of the incident, summoned the DGP, Lucknow SSP, LU vice chancellor, registrar and proctor in connection with the incident. The bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Rajesh Singh pulled up the police for not responding promptly to the complaint of the university authorities. University officials had claimed that they made repeated calls to the SSP and other police officials but no one responded. The court further directed the police authorities to file affidavit as regards their action in the matter.
