Income of spiritual leaders under I-T lens
The venues are booked for the event for several lakhs of rupees and the decoration is also equally expensive.
Lucknow: The Income Tax officials in Uttar Pradesh are preparing to investigate the sources of earnings of spiritual leaders who own palatial ashrams in the state.
A list of “babas” and spiritual leaders is being compiled by the IT department and the authorities will soon begin probing their assets.
“We have been receiving information about the undisclosed assets of these spiritual leaders. They hold sermons and get huge amounts of money as donation and no disclosure is made of this”, said an official.
Most of these spiritual leaders hold religious discourses and spend huge amounts of money in advertising the same. The venues are booked for the event for several lakhs of rupees and the decoration is also equally expensive.
“The income from these discourses is huge because devotees donate money and jewellery,” the official said.
