New Delhi: Accusing Rajya Sabha chairperson M. Venkaiah Naidu of bias, rebel JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav on Thursday said he will challenge his disqualification from the Upper House in court.

Mr Yadav accused Mr Naidu of applying different standards in his case and that of former RS member and liquor baron Vijay Mallya. An ethics committee was constituted to consider the disqualification of Mr Mallya, facing a case of loan default of over '9,400 crore, before he himself resigned from the House in September last year.

“In my case the Supreme Court”, an apparent reference to Mr Naidu, “gave an order straightaway without referring the matter to a parliamentary committee”, he said.

“I had resigned twice from Lok Sabha — on Emergency and hawala issues — and as such I never cared for positions in my political life. During my present fight to save democracy, I am ready to sacrifice anything,” Mr Yadav said. He disapproved of Mr Naidu’s comments defending his decision to disqualify the rebel JD(U) leader.
